Road safety being forgotten?

Road safety is very important to us and we should treat the matter seriously. Unfortunately, many people jay-walk instead of crossing the road using the proper way, and this is very dangerous. Things like the traffic light and zebra crossing are there to help us cross the road safely but many people just want to save the time and end up risking their lives. Although the overall traffic situation has improved, there are still quite a number of road accidents that can be avoided if road safety is being prioritised.
What do you think about the parents who lead their children to jay-walk by holding their hands? Irresponsible? Bad examples? Despite all these thoughts, the parents still think that jay-walking is normal and is nothing wrong. Dangers of jay-walking, together with road safety are forgotten by many people. Parents will not want their children to get into accidents, do they?
Drivers may not always be able to brake in time to prevent accidents from happening so we should be responsible for our own safety and not jay-walk. Many people may think that accidents will not happen on them but it is better to be safe than sorry. Do not wait until accidents happen then regret not prioritising road safety as it will be too late.
Everybody can play a part by reminding each other that jay-walking is dangerous and that we should cross the road by using the proper way instead. Life is precious. Hence we should treasure our lives and be responsible for our own safety.
"Road sense is the offspring of courtesy and the parent of safety." ~Australian Traffic Rule, quoted in Quotations for Special Occasions by Maud van Buren, 1938
